Reason #3 - Fresh Blood
hile I believe that experience is important, I also believe that fresh perspectives are important. I do not believe that board membership should be a life-long appointment. There are plenty of qualified people living in the district who have transferable skills and experiences that would make them worthy of being on the board of WaterOne.
On a professional level, I have been responsible for budget development and management, business case development, data analytics, and other business activities. I know the pitfalls of business activities and can understand the assumptions that go into deriving business cases. My skills and experiences will guide me well as we strive to achieve the best quality water at the best possible rate. I also respect experts and will listen to the science associated with decision-points.
On a personal level, I have lived in the area since the middle 1990s; my parents were both born and raised Kansas farm kids; three of my four grandparents were born in Kansas, and the one who was not, had deep roots in the state. But I grew-up in the Intermountain West where water supplies are scarce. Because of this, water issues were more on my mind and at a younger age than had I grown up in Johnson County. We are so fortunate to live in an abundant environment. I grew up with water restrictions and the threat of water scarcity, I believe this has led me to conclude that we can not take our resources, as plentiful as they may be, for granted.
